THE COURSE EXPERIENCE
Omeya Golf Club sits in the acacia savannah north of Windhoek, a verdant oasis that surprises
first-time visitors with its quality and scale. Designed by celebrated architect Peter Matkovich, the
layout works harmoniously with the natural landscape — thick wispy rough, camelthorn trees, dry
riverbeds and rocky outcrops all come into play, demanding both accuracy and imagination at every
turn.
“The putting surfaces are quick and pure and will leave an impression long after you
have returned to your local course.”
— Wade Pretorius, Compleat Golfer, August 2018
The course presents a genuine test across all seasons. Summer brings lush fairways and soft
landing areas, while winter conditions reward longer hitters — though a shorter Omeya is never an
easier one, with slick greens guarded by bunkers and the ever-present Namibian wind making club
selection a constant challenge.
SIGNATURE HOLES
The par-three 4th is widely regarded as the first truly iconic hole — a long, narrow green virtually
surrounded by a sweeping bunker, playing anywhere from 80m off the ladies’ tee to over 200m from
the championship markers. The par-five 11th stretches to a formidable 560m and demands three
disciplined shots to negotiate.
The 15th green — described in the article as the best and most difficult on the course — sits above
a dry riverbed that flows only a few times per season, creating a spectacle that stops even the most
focused golfer in their tracks.
“Having ticked Omeya on my bucket list, I’ll put playing the hole in a rare moment of
rain as something even more special.”
— Wade Pretorius, Compleat Golfer, August 2018
The closing 18th — a long, demanding par four — finishes the round to perfection, with indigenous
trees lining the right side of the fairway and a bunker short of the green ready to punish anything
less than a precise approach.
